Spitsbergen is the only permanently inhabited island in the arctic archipelago of Svalbard, which constitues the northern most part of Norway, sitting roughly halfway between the mainland and the North Pole. You may have heard of their Global Seed Vault.

Enchanted Valley, Olympic National Park, Washington, USA. This was built as a wilderness lodge before the park was established, but now serves as a ranger station and emergency hiker shelter. It’s reached via a 13-mile hike up the Quinault River.
